Meet the team

In addition to our teaching staff, we have a large team of teaching assistants and learning mentors for whom the wellbeing of the children always comes first. Here are some of the people you’ll meet.

Rosemary Whaley — Principal & Proprietor

Rosemary founded Llangattock School Monmouth in 1998, out of a conviction that there is a better way for children to learn. “Here, children’s progress can be limitless, as they learn at their own pace, and are championed for every emerging skill.”

More than twenty-five years on, she continues to lead the school she created — a place where every child can have a positive experience of childhood and education, and grow into the unique adult they are meant to be, with a secure and positive self-image. Rosemary is available to families throughout the school year, including holidays.

Claire Skyme — Headteacher

“It is both a privilege and a joy to lead such a vibrant and nurturing school community. With over 25 years of experience in teaching and leadership, I bring a deep commitment to inclusive, child-centred education and a strong belief that every learner deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported.”

Claire holds a Master’s degree in Inclusion, Equity and Diversity, and is a trauma-informed trained practitioner and a qualified dyslexia teacher. Her areas of professional interest include teaching twice-exceptional students, promoting meaningful student agency, and working in genuine co-creation with neurodiverse young people. She is committed to strengthening parental advocacy and to the full inclusion of learners with additional needs.

“I believe education is about nurturing confident, curious and resilient young people who are well prepared for life beyond school. Strong partnerships with families and the wider community are at the heart of everything we do — and I look forward to welcoming you.”
